I read biographies because I want to know about someone's life. From Winston Churchill, FDR, Thomas Jefferson and Nicola Tesla, what I wouldn't give to pick their brains. I read those biographies because I am looking for the best surrogate to speak to about those people.

One of Churchill's best quotes- "Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm". I highly recommend "Hero of the Empire" by Candice Millard and "Churchill and Ireland" by Paul Bew given to me by a friend-- Many over look Churchill's involvement with Ireland-- Both great books.
